Akron, Ohio- Elaine Gallagher Adams, AIA, will be the keynote speaker for the inaugural year county-wide awards program that will showcase the best examples of commercial energy efficiency, waste reduction and involvement of employees, in companies with over 250 employees, companies with less than 250 employees and nonprofits. The Summit of Sustainability awards program will culminate in an awards luncheon on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at The University of Akron’s Student Center Ballroom. Registration is at 11:30 a.m., luncheon and program begin at 12 noon.

Elaine is a senior consultant with the buildings program at RMI. She is a project manager and licensed architect with a wide range of experience in building design, historic preservation, energy conservation, and green operations, with expertise in passive solar design and rehabilitating existing buildings. She has a particular interest in achieving energy and resource conservation through effective urban planning and creative building design - learning from historic precedence and integrating RMI’s whole-systems design approach to buildings, campuses, communities, cities and regions.

To be sustainable is to balance economic, environmental and social concerns, and to think about how actions today will affect future generations. In reality, it is about helping our community save energy and money, create more transportation choices, preserve clean air and bring economic prosperity in the process. This program hopes to reveal best sustainable business practices going on in our community that can be showcased for others to emulate. To apply for the awards companies and agencies had to be located within Summit County.

It is now time to go to to buy your tickets to attend so you can learn how the winners have become sustainable and been rewarded for it. Your company or organization can purchase a table of eight ($200) or individual luncheon tickets for $25, at the website. Ticket holders receive a university parking pass.
