CUAW, 2008
Keep Akron Beautiful enthusiastically thanks the many, many volunteers who participated in our 27th annual Clean Up Akron Week. This year, 2,260 citizens from all over Akron rolled up their sleeves and fought dirty for our city by cleaning 119 sites of public land! Volunteers put in over 11,000 hours to collect 14,160—or 7.08 tons—of litter! During the same week, 62 miles of streets, roads and highways were cleaned; along with 27 acres of city parks and open spaces; 4 community recreation centers; and four-and-a-half miles of rivers and lakes. Volunteers also collected 150 pounds of aluminum cans and bottles, 32 tires and 25 computer batteries for recycling. Now that’s a lot of litter!
Among these statistics were over 100 very diverse groups and single volunteers who fought dirty for our city, instilling pride in Akron and making our city an even better place to live. Not only is Clean Up Akron Week our biggest event of the year, but it also fulfills our new and expanded mission to improve Akron’s quality of life through beautification and responsible environmental management. Without your help, this event and accomplishment would not be possible. Keep Akron Beautiful gratefully thanks each and every volunteer who participated this year to make our city great—you all did a wonderful job and we look forward to working with you again for Clean Up Akron Week, 2009!

With Clean Up Akron Week continually growing larger every year, we want to genuinely thank those who work to make our city a better place to live and Keep Akron Beautiful! Congratulations to each and every volunteer who helped to make Akron nearly litter-free! We hope to see you again for Clean Up Akron Week in 2009!
