In an on-going commitment by the Motor Equipment Department to keep up with the latest clean burning engines that produce the least amount of greenhouse gas emissions, the City of Akron purchased eighteen (18) automated refuse, four (4) rear loading refuse, and one (1) tandem/ dump/ salt/ plow trucks. All are on 2013 Kenworth T470 chassis with Cummins 9 liter Diesel engine that are 2010 Clean idle certified and have SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction of emissions). These 18 vehicles replaced 1998-2006 trucks that were heavy polluters. The City Department also purchased fourteen (14) dump, plow, /salt trucks that are on 2013 Peterbilt 348 cab & chassis, with 8 liter Cummins diesel engines, also 2010 Clean Idle Certified and have SCR emissions. These vehicles replace 1995-1998 trucks.
