Programs
Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) improves the quality of life through beautification and responsible environmental management.
KAB programming includes:
- Loaning portable trash receptacles for special events held by the city and civic organizations.

- Collecting litter from parks, roadsides, expressways and illegal dumps within the city limits.
- Conducting public awareness campaigns in order to modify the behavior and create a sense of individual responsibility towards neighborhood litter control and handling solid waste.
- Educating youngsters about recycling and the hazards of litter through classroom presentations, educational materials, and special projects.
- Conducting training on environmental curriculum guides and distributing them to Akron’s educators in public and private schools, grades K-12.
- Mobilizing a vast corps of volunteers and businesses to participate in Clean-Up Akron Week, the KAB annual spring litter collection event.
- Installing penalty signs for littering and dumping.
- Promoting the enforcement of litter ordinances through participation in litter law enforcement programs.
- Organizing and assisting volunteers in beautification efforts through the Adopt-A-Site program.
- Planting and maintaining flowerbeds in and adjacent to the downtown area as part of the privately funded Flowerscape program.
- Celebrating Arbor Day by conducting a slogan contest and classroom presentations, as well as distributing seedlings to fourth grade students.
- Presenting Beautification Watch Certificates to businesses, institutions and residences that have landscaped their properties in a noteworthy way.
- Promoting the benefits of Akron’s integrated solid waste disposal plan of curbside recycling and composting.
