Keep Akron Beautiful has been recruiting thousands of citizens every spring for 26 years to pick up litter and dumping on public land during our annual Clean Up Week. Register a volunteer group to clean or join us at the Akron Zoo in hosting a complientary picnic and awards ceremony for all the cleanup workers who care about how their neighborhood looks.
Volunteer at Canal Park Statium for Education Days in April/May 2008. These morning baseball games of the Akron Aeros bring over 30,000 students, chaperones and teachers by bus to see the AA team play ball and learn something in the process. Our agency provides the litter prevention curriculum, a concourse hands-on activity booth and instigates a trash bag passing through the seating sections to prevent litter under the seats.
There are over 90 Adopt-A-Sites all over Akron which are public gardens planted and maintained by volunteer groups. You can help us plan and implement a "how-to" clinic for them every April or come to the agency and help pass out the flats of flowers we order for them at wholesale prices.
Our agency is responsible for celebrationg Arbor Day in all of fourth grade classrooms in Akron the last Friday of April. We need your help to distribute the pine seedlings to every public, private and charter school the day before so each child can take home a living thing to plant and nurture.
How well do you know all ten wards of your city? Join us for a windshield Litter survey done by van each June to subjectively measure the amount of litter each year against a baseline measurement. It's a eye opening experience and you might be pleasantly surprised!
You can judge an Arbor Day slogan contest or a book jacket design contest alongside public school principals or city administration employees. It's one way of getting in touch with what's happening with our school system.
Is there a property in Akron that you drive by that you wish could be recongnized for the big improvement thay have made in our environment? Write a nomination form for our October Take Pride in Akron recognition, which recognizes any person, business, organization or project that reflects our agency's mission statement.
Attend our four luncheon meetings, held at different locations of interest, so you can learn about our community, and choose how you are going to volunteer each year. Try something new!
The best reason to volunteer with our volunteer corps would be the Voulnteer Apperciation Bus tour every May/June that takes you on trips to areas of interest in Northeast Ohio. Transportation is free and you can bring your friends!
