Farewell from KAB Intern!

by Sara Huffstetler, Communications Intern

As I began my internship with Keep Akron Beautiful (KAB) I was also beginning my residency in the community. I was excited to see what the ins and outs of a non-profit organization looked like and how a group of people were reaching out to the community in order to implement and sustain changes that benefit the wellbeing of Akron. Though I only interned with KAB for a month, I have gained so much knowledge in the field of communications as well as new approaches on how to be a better steward to the environment.

I was also able to see my abilities in writing take new forms as I began writing KAB social media content, blogs, newsletters, and so much more; but my days were not merely spent behind a desk. I had the opportunity to engage with members of the community that are passionate and serious about seeing Akron’s potential become a reality. I worked alongside of KAB and volunteers in the community doing prep work for the Better Block project, met with vendors for the Dreamscape Makeover, and got to know a handful of KAB workers who are out ”getting their hands dirty” so that Akron can be at its best.

Thanks to this internship, I am more motivated than ever to be submerged in my new community by taking advantage of more volunteer opportunities as well as doing my part in the fight for a litter-free Akron. I am also excited to say that I am officially graduated and am feeling much more confident in my abilities thanks to Helen and the rest of the KAB team!
