Clean Up Akron Month is our biggest cleanup event of the year! Throughout the month of April, volunteers who want to help keep their city clean and beautiful can register to help pick up litter and debris. Volunteers can choose the day and sight they wish to work on, as long as it is public land in the city of Akron. The KAB staff can answer any questions regarding the location as well!
With winter coming to an end in the next few months, we will all see the snow start to melt and any trash, debris, and illegal dumping that was hidden before will become visible. KAB wants those who are passionate about their area to sign up and help make the city cleaner!
During Clean Up Akron Month last year, 3,086 volunteers cleaned up 112 sites, including 29 city parks, 32 school campuses, and 3 community centers. 29,541 lbs. of litter was collected, along with 1,125 lbs. of recyclables. Of this material, volunteers found 82 tires, clothes, a miniature tractor, bed frames, pieces of cars, and more illegally dumped items. The success of last year’s events shows what a huge difference CUAM can make in any community!
Because this year is our 35 anniversary, we will be giving the first 1,000 volunteers who register a FREE t-shirt, along with their free admission to the Akron Zoo for Super Saturday (April 30)! Volunteers will also receive lunch and an awards ceremony to commemorate all the hard work they did during Clean Up Akron Month!
Registration will start mid-February, so mark your calendars!
