Choosing a college and a career path are some of the most difficult decisions that a young person must face. Today, I look back on that difficult time and realize how lucky I am to find myself on one of the most beautiful campus communities in Ohio beginning a career that I love!
My name is Willa, and I am currently beginning my internship with Keep Akron Beautiful. I am a junior at The University of Akron pursing my Bachelor of Arts in Business Organizational Communication with a minor in English. On campus, I enjoy spending my time working with different student organizations such as Dance Marathon, Student Ambassadors and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority as well as working at the Career Center as a Peer Advisor. I grew up in Newark, Ohio and never thought that I would find another place that I could call “home.” After just a few hours on a college tour at The University of Akron as a high school student, I realized that I was wrong. I fell in love with the campus, the beautiful downtown and all of the people that I met. I find myself discovering new treasures in Akron every week, and am grateful to now be working with an organization that contributes so much to the city I have grown to love.
I am very excited to begin helping with different community cleanup events, learning more about living an environmentally friendly lifestyle and gaining experience working with a nonprofit organization. I have a lot to learn and look forward to all of the new experiences coming this spring!
